Class 181 Bo-Bo
Yet more locomotives were required in 1966 and a further 12 built to a similar design as the class 141s. These locomotives were delivered with the 1100hp units designated GM-EMD 8-645E.
With parts interchangeable with the class 141s at least one of the class 181s ended up with a GM EMD 8-567CR 950hp refurbished engine from a class 141.

Max Speed 89mph but limited by CIE to 75mph.
Last withdrawal in 2009.
One preserved by the Irish traction Group.
The class 181 sounds have been recorded from the prototype.
