GWR 57xx Pannier tank
GWR/BR Pannier Tank 57xx
Designed by Collett and built over a 30 year period from 1929-1949 these 0-6-0 pannier tank locomotives could be found all over the GWR and later Western region of British Railways.
In 1933 a modified cab which gave greater visibility and greater weather protection for the crew was introduced.
Thirteen of the class were sold to London Transport.
Further examples were sold on after BR use to collieries and other industrial concerns.
BR number series 3600-3799, 4600-4699, 5700-5799,7700-7799, 8700-8799 9600-9682 9711-9799.
Last locomotive withdrawn 1966.
16 have been preserved.
The GWR 57xx sounds have been recorded from the prototype.
