LMS 5XP Jubilee (Reclassified 6P5F in 1951)

Stanier designed the 5XP Class the first 5 of which were introduced in 1934 based on the Fowler Patriot chassis as they were being produced Crewe works at the time.
Stanier’s design had a taper boiler and modified cab.
After problems with steaming the superheater elements were increased in number and size and modifications made to the blastpipe and chimney.
The class name Jubilee came from the Silver Jubilee of King George V in 1935.
No 5642 which was new in 1935 swapped identities with 5552 was named ‘Silver Jubilee’ and took its place as the head locomotive of the class.
Eventually 191 members of the class were built taking names from Commonwealth Countries, Naval Battles, Admirals, Greek Mythology, historic Ex LNWR locomotives and provinces of Eire.
The duties of the class were express passenger they were based in an area from Glasgow, Perth, Leeds, Nottingham, London, Bristol, Shrewsbury, Llandudno Junc, Liverpool and Carlisle.

BR Number series 45552-45742 (45736 & 45736 were rebuilt in 1942 with larger boilers and double chimneys)
Last locomotive withdrawn 1967
4 have been preserved.
