LNER/BR V2

LNER/BR V2

Produced between 1936 and1944 these Gresley designed 3 cylinder 2-6-2 tender locomotives were built for a Mixed-traffic role but were quite capable of running express passenger trains when the need arose. The original locomotive was named ‘Green Arrow’ for the introduction of a special fast freight service on the East Coast mainline.
Their sphere of operation was widespread from Aberdeen, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Leeds, Leicester, Peterborough, and London.
Having said that they would often stray from their home territory on specials.
Of the last batch to be built in 1944, 4 were cancelled and then built as Thompson 2-cylinder Pacific's.

BR number series 60800-60983
Last Locomotive withdrawn in 1966.
