L&NWR/LMS/BR 7F G2A (Super Ds)

The origin of the class can be traced back to1892 when Webb introduced his prototype 0-8-0 locomotive.
Later developments saw three and four cylinder compounds, superheated and non superheated boilers, round topped and Belpaire fireboxes.
These developments were carried out by Webb, Whale and Bowen Cook who built 572 of this type of locomotive,502 of which came into BR stock in 1948.
The primary use of the locomotives was heavy freight on the London and North Western Railway.
The geographical spread of the locos was from London to Carlisle and Holyhead plus Crewe to Swansea.


BR number series between 48892 and 49394
The last locomotive was withdrawn in 1964.
None have been preserved, but a similar G2 class has one survivor.
