LSWR/SR/BR Class 0298 Beattie Well Tank 2-4-0T

LSWR/SR/BR Class 0298 Beattie Well Tank 2-4-0T

These three locomotives that entered BR stock in 1948 did so against all odds.
Designed by Beattie for the London and South Western Railway these locomotives were built in 1874 to operate the intense services out of Waterloo to the South Western London Suburbs.
Twelve locomotives of this type were built 9 being retired and scrapped between 1888 and 1898 and the three survivors were sent to Cornwall to work the Wadebridge to Wenford Bridge branch which had severe loading gauge restrictions.
It is unfortunate that although all three were scheduled for preservation 30586, which was slightly different with square splashers was inadvertently scrapped.

BR number series 30585-30587.
Last Locomotive withdrawn in 1962.
Two have been preserved.

The file has been updated to the new functions.
Not all functions are available on all locomotives.
