GWR/BR Prairie Tank 3100 class

Collett rebuilt five of the 3150 class in 1938/9 with smaller 5ft3in driving wheels and increased boiler pressure to 225psi. for use as banking engines.
More would have been converted if WW11 had not intervened.
In BR days the class were located at Tysley, Stafford Road, Ebbw Junction and Tondu each one spending its entire BR life at a single depot.

As a footnote the 8100 class were similar rebuilds from the 5100 class but using 5ft6in wheels.tive withdrawn 1960.
