GWR/BR Hawksworth County Class 1000 4-6-0

These Hawksworth locomotives were the last 4-6-0s designed for the Great Western Railway being introduced in 1945, 30 were built between that date and 1947.
The boiler was constructed using the jigs that were available at Swindon after production of LMS 2-8-0 8F locomotives during WW11.
Initially the class had steaming problems which were cured by the fitting of double chimneys from 1956 onwards.
The class were used on mixed traffic duties and could be found from Paddington to West Wales, Penzance and Chester.

BR Number series 1000-1029
Last locomotive withdrawn in 1964.
None have been preserved.

The GWR Hawksworth sounds are generic as there are none in preservation.
