NER/LNER/BR J27

Introduced in 1906 these 0-6-0 tender locomotives were designed for freight operations of the North Eastern Railway by Worsdell 80 were built.
When Raven took over as locomotive superintendent, he used the basic design but with piston valves and superheater, 35 of this type were built.
The Raven built locomotives could be distinguished by their longer smokeboxes.
The class could be found all over the North East hauling freight, mostly coal.
Originally put into power class 4F by BR they were later upgraded to power class 5F

BR Number series 65780-65894.
The last locomotive was withdrawn in 1967.
One of the Raven batch has been preserved.
