SR Rebuilt Bulleid Pacific ‘West Country’

SR/BR Rebuilt Bulleid Pacific ‘West Country’
The only way to tell the difference between the ‘West Country’ and the‘Battle of Britain’
4-6-2 locomotive classes is the shape of the nameplate, otherwise they were identical. Designed as a light pacific for use on the Southern Railway where the heavier Merchant Navy class were banned due to their axle loading.
The class could often be found on very short trains in the South West having various carriages removed en-route from London to serve various branches.
It would not be unusual to find the loco on a single coach train at the end of its journey. Generally speaking the Battle of Britain class were in the Eastern and Central sections and the West Country class were in the Western section of the Southern.

BR number series 34001-34048, 34091-34108
