SECR/SR/BR P Class 0-6-0T

SECR/SR/BR P Class 0-6-0T
Designed by Wainwright and introduced in 1909, these diminutive tank locomotives were originally intended form push-pull passenger trains but were found to be too small.
They found their mark as shunting engines, some in Dover Docks and in other areas where their small wheelbase was a benefit on the tight curves.
Only 8 members of the class built and 4 have been preserved as their small size was an advantage to the burgeoning preservation lines.
Their area of operation was from Dover in the East to Stewarts Lane, Fratton, and Eastleigh in the West. One, 31178 was sold into industrial use at Bowaters of Sittingbourne before being preserved.

BR Number series 31027-31558 with gaps.

Last locomotive withdrawn 1961.
4 have been preserved.
