SR Rebuilt Bulleid Pacific ‘Battle of Britain’

SR/BR Rebuilt Bulleid Pacific ‘Battle of Britain’
Bulleid designed the air smoothed Battle of Britain and West Country Classes during WWII.
They had many novel features which led to them being rebuilt on more conventional lines from 1957 onwards.
The only way to tell the difference between the Battle of Britain and the West Country 4-6-2 locomotive classes is the shape of the nameplate, otherwise they were identical.
Designed as a light pacific for use on the Southern Railway on lines where the heavier Merchant Navy class were banned due to their axle loading.
Generally speaking the Battle of Britain class were in the Eastern and Central sections and the West Country class were in the Western section of the Southern.

BR number series 34049-34090, 34109,34110.

Last Locomotive withdrawn in 1966.

3 rebuilt ones have been preserved.

The Bulleid Pacific ‘Battle go Britain’ sounds have been recorded from the prototype.
