Drewry Ex British Railways Class 04 0-6-0 DM Shunter

Drewry Ex British Railways Class 04 0-6-0DM Shunter
The first built Drewry shunter used by British Railways was departmental No. DS1173 built in 1947 (this locomotive was later renumbered D2341 in 1967).
There then followed the main batch built between 1952 and 1961 with minor changes.
The locomotives used the Gardner 8L3 delivering 204hp.
This prime mover was to be the standard power unit used in the later classes 03, 05 and 06.
Due to the closure of many of the smaller freight yards and depots several locomotives became surplus to BR’s requirements and many were sold on to industry.
By 1980 many locomotives had been sold on to Port Authorities, Paper Mills, Steel companies, & the NCB.

BR Number series DS1173, 11000-11103, 11105-11115, 11121-11135, 11149-11160,11212-11229 later renumbered in the series D2200-D2341.
None (as far as we can tell) lasted long enough to receive TOPS numbers.
Over 60 passed into industrial use.
