Built between 1947 and 1952 these locomotives were not the prettiest design of 2-6-0 locomotive to be produced in Britain by any stretch of the imagination.
The class paved the way for the later BR Standard Class 4 76000-76114 which thankfully were tidied up developments of the class by Riddles.
The line best associated with the class was the Midland and Great Northern from Yarmouth and Norwich to Peterborough.
Although an LMS design only 3 were delivered before the advent of British Railways the others being taken directly into BR Stock and shedded from London to the North East and Carlisle to east Anglia.
For a short time four were allocated to the Somerset and Dorset.
