GNR(I) BUT Class 700

GNR(I) BUT Class 700
Following the success of the AEC railcars the GNR board, in 1954, decided to order a fleet of DMUs.
In Britain the AEC, Leyland and Albion vehicle manufacturers had amalgamated in to one company British
United Traction to produce rail vehicles/engines – hence the BUT Class name. The bodies were shipped from the AEC works to Dundalk for assembly and fitting prior to service.
Each vehicle had 2 BUT A230 150hp engines.
16 vehicles with half cabs and corridor connectors at either end plus 8 vehicles with full width single cabs with corridor connectors at the rear end only were produced.
The units could work in multiple with up to four power cars in a train.
Trailer vehicles could also be attached allowing up to an eight-car train.
The vehicles later passed to the UTA, NIR & CIE.

No. Series 701-716 (2 Cabs), 901-908 (Single Cabs)

As the BUT class 700’s are no longer running the sounds are generic.

The sounds have been enhanced with archived sounds.

The engine has been recorded from an AEC DMU
