LMS/BR 4MT Fairburn 2-6-4T

LMS/BR 4MT Fairburn 2-6-4T
Designed by Fairburn and built between 1945 and 1951 these locomotives were a development of the Stanier and Fowler 2-6-4 Tank locomotives.
They could be distinguished by the open running plate in front of the cylinders and had a slightly shorter wheelbase.
Most of the locomotives were built by the LMS and later BR at Derby Works, but the final batch were the product of Brighton Works.
Intended for intermediate work on stopping passenger, parcels and freight work these locomotives were a maid of all work, they could be found in a widespread area in the Midlands, North Eastern, Scottish and Southern regions being shedded between Gateshead, Perth, Bangor and Dover.
