GWR 42xx

GWR/BR 4200 Class
Churchward developed the 2-8-0T 28xx class of locomotives in 1910 for mineral traffic in the South Wales Valleys and building carried on up until 1923.
The locomotives were classified as power class 7F by BR and spent their entire lives on heavy freight trains and could be found shedded between St. Blazey and Shrewsbury and Gloucester to Llanelly.
Collett, Churchward's successor, introduced the 5204 Class as a development of the 4200 Class.
From 1934-1937 some locomotives of the 4200 and 5205 class were rebuilt into 2-8-2 Tank locomotives to increase their range with larger fuel bunkers.
The rebuilds were named 7200 Class.

BR 4200-4299 & 5200-5204.

Last Locomotive withdrawn 1965.
