GWR 68xx ‘Grange’

GWR/BR Grange (68xx) Class
Designed by Collett and built in 1936-1939 these 4-6-0 locomotives were to replace the 4300 series of 2-6-0 locomotives incorporating reused parts including the wheels and motion.
Building ceased during WWII and the replacement program not continued.
Although like the Manor (78xx) Class, both being in BR power class 5MT, the Granges being heavier and slightly more powerful were restricted to red classified routes.
They could be found working in the area covered from Penzance to Birkenhead and South Wales to London.

BR number series 6800-6879.

Last Locomotive withdrawn in 1965.

None have been preserved although a ‘new build’ No. 6880 is currently under construction at the Llangollen Railway.

The GWR 68xx ’Grange’ sounds are generic as there are none in preservation.

The sounds are enhanced with archived sounds.

The file has been updated to the new functions.
Not all functions are available on all locomotives.
