GWR 56xx








GWR/BR 56XX
Designed by Collett and built from 1924-1928 these 0-6-2 side tank locomotives could be found predominately in the South wales valleys but after a number of years some strayed into other areas of the GWR.
Rated 5MT by BR their purpose was to draw coal trains from the colliery exchange sidings to the docks and industry but they often found their way onto local passenger services.
They have proved popular with preserved railways as they are versatile powerful machines that can lend their hand to most tasks.



BR number series 5600-5699, 6600-6699.

Last locomotive withdrawn 1966
9 have been preserved.

The 56xx sounds have been recorded from the prototype.

The file has been updated to the new functions.
