Gloucester Railway Carriage & Wagon Co. Class122 DMU

Gloucester Railway Carriage & Wagon Co. Class122

Coupling code Blue Square.

Introduced in 1958 these single car units built by Gloucester R.C.&W. Co. were intended for light short distance branch line work and had high density seating and no toilet facilities. They were very similar to the Pressed Steel class 121s produced 2 years later.
The motor cars were powered by 2 BUT(AEC) 150hp horizontal 6 cylinder engines.
These 15 single car units with cabs at each end were supplemented by 9 non powered driving trailers so that capacity could be increased when required.
The units later became known as 122 under the TOPS numbering scheme and were originally allocated to the London Midland and Western Regions, some later found there way to Scotland.

8 individual cars have been preserved.
