GWR/BR 94XX
Designed by Hawksworth and introduced in 1947 only the first 10 locomotives of this class were actually built by the GWR, the remainder entering into service from 1948-1955.
The locomotives had the same boiler as the Collett 2251 class and as a consequence were heavier than the previous 57XX class.
Allocated the red route availability they were restricted in their field of operation but could be found from South Wales to London and also from Penzance to Shrewsbury mainly working on heavy shunting and station pilot work.
The BR power classification for the type was 4F.
BR Number series 3400-3409, 8400-8499 & 9400-9499
Last Locomotive withdrawn in 1965.
2 have been preserved.
