GWR 28xx
GWR/BR 2800 & 2884 Class
Churchward developed the 2-8-0 28xx class of locomotives in 1903 and building carried on up until 1919 then nearly 20 years later Collett, Churchward’s successor, introduced the 2884 class which continued in production up until 1942.
The 2 classes were very similar apart from the 2884 class had modified side window cabs, outside steam pipes and a fire iron tunnel on the left hand running plate.
The locomotives were classified as power class 8F by BR and spent their entire lives on heavy freight trains and could be found shedded between Plymouth and Chester and Old Oak Common to Llanelly.

Last Locomotive withdrawn 1965.
7 28XX and 8 2884 class have been preserved.
The GWR 28xx sounds have been recorded from the prototype.
The file has been updated to the new functions.
