Ruston & Hornsby 48DS

The 48DS was a 48hp. Standard gauge diesel shunting locomotive produced for industrial use in the late 1930s. The production run lasted until 1967 other DS locomotives produced were of 88 and 165 hp ratings.
A narrow gauge version was available designated 48DL.
Transmission was via a manual gearbox and chain drive to the axles.
Both narrow gauge and standard gauge locomotives can be found on many preserved railways.
