LNER/BR B17/5 Streamlined
LNER/BR B17/5 Streamlined
In order to publicise the ex Great Eastern lines out of Liverpool Street to Norwich two of the B17s were modified in 1937.
The two engines involved were No.s 2859 and 2870 ( later LNER No.s 1659 and 1670) both were fitted with streamlining similar in style to the A4 Pacific's.
They even had A4 style chime whistles fitted.
The locomotives were intended to be used exclusively on the ‘East Anglian’ named train but after WW11 they were used on other services as well.
The locomotives were shedded at Norwich Thorpe for most of their lives whilst in streamlined form but the streamlining was removed in 1951 and they joined the rest of the B17 class.
BR numbers 60659 & 61670.
The B17/5 sounds are generic as there are none in preservation.
The sounds are enhanced with archived sounds.
