Ruston & Hornsby 88DS.
Originally set up in 1857 as Ruston, Procter & Co. Millwrights and Engineers they originally built steam locomotives.
In the first world war they produced Tanks and Sopwith Camel aircraft
They merged with Richard Hornsby& Son in 1918 creating Ruston Hornsby.
They began to build diesel locomotives in 1931 and production continued until 1967.
The class designation 88DS refers to an 88 hp. Diesel Standard Gauge Locomotive.
Other DS locomotives produced were of 48 and 165 hp ratings.
