LMS/BR 8P Turbomotive

LMS/BR 8P Turbomotive

Introduced in 1935 this Stanier Pacific (4-6-2) locomotive was developed as an experiment into the use of steam turbines (as opposed to reciprocating steam cylinders) for powering trains.
It was the only really successful turbine locomotive in Britain and continued up until 1952 when it was rebuilt as a conventional locomotive.
The boiler, cab and tender were of the standard design used by the LMS Princess class of locomotives and shared its duties with them running out of Euston on the West Coast main line mainly to Liverpool Lime Street.
After only 2 months of service in its rebuilt form the locomotive was damaged beyond repair in the 1952 Harrow train crash.

BR number 46202
Withdrawn in 1952 for rebuilding as a conventional locomotive.
Destroyed at Harrow 1952.

The Turbomotive sounds are generic as there are none in preservation.

The sounds are enhanced with archived sounds.

**The model is designed with the smaller turbine settings for running in reverse.**
