LNER P2 2-8-2
LNER P2 2-8-2
Between 1934 and 1936 Gresley built six P2 class locomotives for the route between Edinburgh Waverley, Dundee and Aberdeen.
The locomotives although powerful had a problem on the highly curved line with the long fixed wheelbase and a pony truck in front in place of a bogie.
All 6 locomotives were slightly different.
2001 had rotary cam poppet valves, 2002 double smoke deflectors, 2003 a similar smoke box to the A4s, 2004, by pass blastpipe, 2005 single blastpipe, and 2006 an extended smokebox and combustion chamber.
In 1942 2005 was withdrawn for rebuilding into Thompson class A2/2 followed by the others in 1944. In 1946 the locomotives were renumbered 501-506 later becoming BR Numbers 60501-60506.
LNER Number series 2001-2006
Withdrawn for rebuilding 1942-1944.
The P2 sounds are generic as there are none in preservation.
The sounds are enhanced with archived sounds from an A4.
