GER/LNER/BR J68
The J68 was a Hill development of the J69 the distinguishing feature being the side window cab. Introduced in 1912-1914 with a further batch in 1923, in all 30 were built.
The first batch of 10 were built for passenger working in the London area and were fitted with Westinghouse brakes.
The next 20 had locomotive steam brakes only for freight work.
The entire class spent their working lives in East London and East Anglia.
BR Numbers allocated 68638-68666
The last locomotive was withdrawn in1961.
None have been preserved.
The J68 sounds are generic as there are none in preservation.
