GER/LNER/BR J67 & J69

GER/LNER/BR J67 & J69

The J67 and J69s were basically the same locomotive design the only difference being that the J69s were use on passenger and empty stock workings working out of Liverpool Street and therefore had Westinghouse brakes fitted.
The J67s were used on unfitted freights and subsequently had locomotive steam brakes only.
The J67s were introduced in 1890 and continued in production up until 1902, the J69s being produced from 1902-1904.
In total 160 of these Holden designed 0-6-0T locomotives were built of which 134 came into BR stock in 1949.
The locomotives were associated with East Anglia & East London but some examples could be found scattered between Scotland, North Wales, Liverpool and Manchester.
Of the Scottish batch two 68492 and 68511 ran with auxiliary tenders and had the side tanks empty to reduce axle load whilst working the Lauder Branch,
.

BR Numbers allocated 68490-68636 plus service locomotives No.43-45
The last locomotive was withdrawn- J67 1958, J69 1962.
One J69 has been preserved.
