The business started of as Fox Walker, and Company in 1864 to produce four and six coupled engines for light shunting duties.
The company were taken over by Thomas Peckett in 1880 later becoming Peckett & Sons.
Between 1885 and 1906 Peckett and Sons of Atlas Works, Bristol produced 140 of the small 0-4-0ST industrial saddle tank locomotives with a wheelbase of 5ft 6in and 14in x 20in cylinders designated W4.
The locomotives with their short wheelbase were popular with docks, collieries, quarries, and a myriad of industrial users.
The B2 0-6-0ST again with 14in x 20in cylinders had a wheelbase of 10ft and was heavier and could therefore take more on the drawbar than the W4.
The B2 was introduce in 1905.
The B2 was replaced by the slightly more powerful B3 in 1933.
A number of Peckett locomotives survive in preservation especially on the smaller lines where their economy in coal consumption is an advantage if the loads are not too challenging.
Many variations in cab style chimney and safety valves could be found within the batches produced.
