GWR/BR 2721 Class
Originally built as saddle tanks from 1897-1901 the 2721 class were rebuilt as pannier tanks over a period of time.
The locomotives, therefore had different styles of cabs, some being open backed, and bunkers.
No.s 2783 and 2784 were fitted with spark arresting chimneys to enable them to work at the Didcot Provender depot and the Royal Ordnance Depots.
The locomotives will be associated with South Wales but on absorption into BR stock they could be found from Birkenhead to Penzance and Southall to Llanelli.
The last 4 in BR stock continued in operation at Swindon as works shunters for a few months.

Last Locomotive withdrawn 1950 although one survived in industrial service until 1958
