LSWR/SR/BR 0-4-4T O2 Class

LSWR/SR/BR 0-4-4T O2 Class

Between 1889 and 1895 Adams of the London and South Western Railway built sixty 0-4-4 Tank locomotives which were designed for branch line and general shunting work replacing the Beattie Well tanks which were currently doing this work.
Some locomotives were push pull fitted for working autotrains.
In 1923 two were sent over to the Isle of Wight and as they were so successful a further 21 were sent there.
The I.o.W locos were modified by adding extra large bunkers for coal and fitted with Westinghouse brakes in addition to receiving local names.
The locomotives on the mainland worked between Plymouth, Wadebridge, Bournemouth, Waterloo and Feltham.

BR Number series 30177-30236 (With gaps) and I.o.W Numbers W14-W36
Last locomotive withdraw in 1967.
One of the I.o.W. batch has been preserved
