LNER/BR B17 Sandringham/Footballers

Designed by Nigel Gresley for passenger work on the ex Great Eastern lines these locomotives had an interesting history.
The first batch, built from1928 onwards, were used in East Anglia later locomotives going the ex Great Central lines, the last entering service in 1937.
The class totalling 73 engines were divided into 5 sub classes when taken over by BR in 1948.
Variants included two which received streamlining similar too the A4 class, those with short tenders for the ex GE lines, and ten which were converted to two (in place of 3) cylinders by Thompson and became Class B2.
Power rated 4P then rated 5P by BR the initial locomotives were named after country houses later ones being named after football clubs.

The last locomotive was withdrawn in 1960.
None have been preserved.
