LNER/BR K1

LNER/BR K1

The K1, designed by Peppercorn was introduced to traffic in 1949 and so entered directly into British Railway service.
The K1 was a development of the Gresley K4 which was rebuilt by Thompson with 2 cylinders. Peppercorn developed the design further and 70 new engines were built.
The locomotives could be found on Passenger and mixed freight duties, their range of operation was the West Highland line in Scotland from Glasgow to Fort William & Mallaig, and also scattered around the North East and Eastern Regions of British Railways.
The one that has been preserved has been used on the Jacobite steam train which operates between Fort William and Mallaig a line familiar to Harry Potter fans as it crosses Glenfinnan Viaduct.

BR Number series 62000-62070.
The last locomotive being withdrawn in 1967.
One has been preserved.

The file has been updated to the new functions.
Not all functions are available on all locomotives.
