LSWR/SR/BR Class 0415 Adams Radial Tank 4-4-2T
LSWR/SR/BR Class 0415 Adams Radial Tank 4-4-2T
Designed by Adams for the London and South Western Railway and built between 1882 and 1885. Seventy one locomotives of this class were built for suburban work around South West London.
Most of the class were displaced in 1916 due to electrification of the suburban lines but a few had found themselves with interesting lives, one was sold to the Ministry of Munitions in 1917, later working on the East Kent Railway, and two were sent to the West Country to work the Axminster to Lyme Regis branch which abounded in sharp curves also had steep gradients.
In 1946 the locomotive that was in the possession of the East Kent Railway was re purchased and joined the other two at Lyme Regis.
They were withdrawn in 1961, with Ivatt 2MT 2-6-2 Tank locomotives taking over until the line closed in 1965.
