GWR Parcels Railcars.

GWR Parcels Railcars.
The GWR had two dedicated parcels railcars No.s 17 and 34 the two though similar mechanically were very different in their body design.
No. 17 was designed and built by AEC at Southall with a Gloucester C & W body.
It was the same shape to the original streamlined railcars 1-16 but had standard draw-gear and buffers, and a body equipped to carry parcels.
The unit had two sets of double and one set of single sliding doors each side and its interior had hinged shelves located between them.
No. 34 was externally like railcars 19-33 with more angular lines built at Swindon.
It had three sets of double hinged slam doors each side and like No. 17 had hinged parcels shelves between the doors.
Both worked parcels services from Paddington along the Thames Valley.
W17W was withdrawn in 1959 and W34W in 1960 they were replaced by class 128 DPUs.

BR Nos. Series W17W and W34W neither was preserved.
