GER/LNER/BR J70
Twelve of these tramway locomotives (which looked like self propelled guards vans) were built between 1903 and 1921 for the Great Eastern Railway.
They were designed by Holden and intended for work on the Wisbech & Upwell Tramway and working on the roads and quaysides of Yarmouth and Ipswich docks.
The locomotives allocated to the W&UT had cowcatchers and side skirts fitted.
During the life of these locos some strayed as far as March, Kings Lynn, Cambridge, Colchester and Ipswich.
Confined to goods yards and links to industrial premises in the East End of London including the dock areas.
Four were taken into stock by BR in 1948 but only two (68211 & 68214) survived long enough to receive their BR numbers.

BR Numbers allocated 68216-68226

The last locomotive was withdrawn in 1955.
