LMS/BR 8P Princess Coronation

LMS/BR 8P Princess Coronation (Duchess)
Introduced in 1937 these Stanier Pacific (4-6-2) locomotives were designed for fast expresses between London and Scotland to contend with the competition from Gresley’s streamlined trains running on the LNER.
Of the 37 built the first 10 were built with streamlining followed by 5 without then a further 14 streamlined the final 8 without.
The last 2 46256&46257 were built by Ivatt in 1947/8 with slight detail differences.
From 1946 onwards, the streamlining was removed the last being converted in 1949.
When the streamlining was initially removed the smokeboxes had sloping tops, but these were replaced when major overhauls became due.
