British Railways Class 22








North British, British Railways Class 22 B-B DH
Introduced in 1958 as part of the BR Diesel pilot Scheme there were initially to be 6 diesel hydraulic locomotives built to this design for the Western Region.
This order was increased to a total of 58.
Built by the North British Locomotive Co. these 1000hp. locomotives had a NBL/MAN L12V18/21A diesel engine and Voith hydraulic transmission.
Originally allocated to Bristol, Newton Abbot and Old Oak the locomotives could be found working singly and in multiple on West Country trains and ECS duties out of Paddington.
Being non standard the locomotives were early withdrawals all going by January 1972.

BR Number series D6300 – D6357
None have been preserved.

The class 22 sounds are generic as there are none in preservation.
