BR Standard 6MT ‘Clan’

BR Standard 6MT ‘Clan’
The 4-6-2 Clan Class locomotives were introduced in 1951 and continued in build up to 1952.
Designed by Robin Riddles they were light Pacific’s 87 tons compared with the 94 tons of the Britannia’s.
The original order included a further 5 for the Southern Region but the order was cancelled after the first 10 were built.
Named after Scottish Clans the locomotives were shedded in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Carlisle although one spent a month at Stratford in 1958.
The type of work that they performed was mostly express passenger and parcels traffic between Liverpool and Scotland.
