GWR/BR Condensing Pannier/Side Tank 9700 class.
Designed by Collett for use over the Metropolitan widened lines to the East End of London’s Smithfield Market.
These locomotives built in 1933 were a development of the 57XX and 8750 Pannier tanks.
Their area of operation was restricted to transfer freights from the Paddington area to locations in the East and South East of London.
BR number series 9700-9710.
Last locomotive withdrawn 1964.
None have been preserved.
The GWR 9700 sounds are generic as there are none in preservation.
