LNER B1 (Antelope)

LNER/BR B1 (Antelope)
Designed by Edward Thompson for a mixed traffic roll these 4-6-0 locomotives were first introduced in 1942 and continued in production up to 1952.
Production was initially slow due to wartime restrictions but once the war was over production pace increased and in the end 410 examples were produced.
They could be found all over the Eastern, North Eastern and ex LNER Lines of the Scottish regions of British railways.
Forty locomotives were named after antelopes and a further eighteen after directors of the LNER.
The BR power rating for the class was 5MT.
Sixteen locomotives were transferred to departmental use in the 1960s to act as boilers for carriage heating at the larger carriage sidings.
