NIR 80 Class DEMU
NIR 80 Class DEMU
Manufactured in 1974 -78 by BREL Derby this class consisted of 22 power cars and based on the British Railways Mk2 carriage.
The power units used are English Electric 4SRKT 560hp diesel engines, the two traction motors are mounted on the rear bogie of the Power car.
Sets could be made up into 2,3,4 or 6 carriages .
The available coaches were Driving Motor Brake (DMB), Driving Trailer (DT), Driving Trailer Brake (DTB) and T Trailer.
Corridor connections are provided within the set but not at the Driving Motor end.
The last unit was withdrawn in 2011 following the arrival of the Class 4000 units.
LH Services of Barton under Needwood, England have refurbished selected units for a sandite train.

Preserved No. 99 converted to British Standard Gauge and is on the East Lancashire Railway
Sandite units 69, 90, 97 and 752.
The NIR 80 class sounds have been recorded from the prototype.
