County Donegal, Rail bus
The County Donegal Railway had experience of the savings petrol and diesel rail buses could make and upon investigation of available units turned to Walker Brothers for the powered bogies on its articulated railcars.
The first of these vehicles in 1934 No.s 12 &14 had half cabs (Similar to 1930s-1950s busses) these were followed from 1935 by No.s 15-18 with full width cabs and protruding bonnets.
The final development in 1950 were No.s 19& 20 with cabs and power units enclosed within the bodywork.
In 1952 CIE purchase railcars similar to No.s 19 & 20 for use on the West Clare Railway they were numbered 3386-3389.
There are preserved examples at the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum, Foyle Valley Railway, Fintown Railway and the Isle of Man Railway.
The County Donegal rail bus class sounds have been recorded from the Walker 90 rail bus.
